Residents enrolled in a CPS-supported, ASHP-accredited residency program learn to demonstrate professional leadership and develop lifelong learning and self-assessment skills that can then be applied in future practice settings and professional endeavors.

CPS Pharmacy Residency Program

PGY1 / PGY2 Health System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership with Masters 

Over the course of the initial 12 months, residents will be exposed to learning experiences required to complete the PGY1 year of the program.  

These may include, but are not limited to, various clinical practice areas in: 
  • Acute inpatient and ambulatory care setting 
  • Medication use evaluations 
  • Drug information 
  • Leadership experiences 

In their second year, residents will complete 12 months of full-time required management and elective rotations. Specific areas include, but are not limited to: 
  • Operations 
  • Finance 
  • Informatics 
  • Purchasing 
  • Supply chain 
  • Quality and performance improvement 
Many elective practice areas are available per resident interest as well, including, but not limited to, 340B, specialty pharmacy, and telepharmacy. Residents will also be expected to complete a performance improvement project during their first year and a major research project in year two under the supervision of preceptors from CPS and faculty members of the College of Pharmacy. Resident projects will be presented at the ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting (MCM) and the Great Lakes Pharmacy Residency Conference (GLPRC).

Requirements

Successful candidates will be graduates of an accredited pharmacy program and licensed to practice pharmacy in the state of Ohio within 90 days (September 30) of program initiation. 

PGY1 Specialty Pharmacy Residency

You will have a unique opportunity to be part of an integrated care team focused on enhancing patient outcomes. Our rotations are designed to give you strong clinical management experience, caring for patients with chronic and complex diseases in the health system setting. 

Throughout the PGY1 year, the resident will be exposed to the following core learning experiences:

  • Autoimmune
  • Behavioral Health
  • Cardiology
  • Employee Health Plan
  • Endocrine/Pulmonology/LGBTQ+ Medicine
  • Hematology/Oncology
  • Infectious Disease
  • Neurology

Additionally, there will be the opportunity for the resident to complete at least one elective learning experience. The current elective rotations include:

  • Specialty Pharmacy Administration
  • Repeat a core rotation with a concentrated disease state
  • Other opportunities may be available based on resident interest

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited pharmacy program and licensed to practice pharmacy in the state of Ohio within 90 days of program initiation.
  • Residents will be required to gain experience by serving as an on-call pharmacist per company-wide policy.
  • Retail pharmacy staffing requirements are location dependent.

PGY2 Psychiatric Pharmacy Residency Program 

Fulton State Hospital (FSH) sponsors an ASHP-accredited, multimodal, 1-year PGY-2 Psychiatric Residency Program serving a diverse population with complex psychopathology. 

 

The FSH PGY-2 Psychiatric Residency Program offers a variety of clinical and didactic opportunities to supplement your current training, provide a solid foundation for work in a variety of settings, and develop specialized skills.  

 

Enhance personal and professional growth through the following opportunities: 

  • Train at a state-of-the-art facility 
  • Participate in multidisciplinary treatment teams 
  • Provide patient medication education groups and academic teaching to a variety of residents, interns, students, and practitioners 
  • Serve on consultation teams, panels, and committees 
  • Conduct research as part of a multidisciplinary Research Committee 
  • Facilitate weekly pharmacist and nurse practitioner study groups 
  • Attend a weekly psychology seminar series  
  • Publish case reports and review articles   

The resident will also complete a longitudinal learning experience focusing on the clinical and operational aspects of managing a clozapine laboratory and clinic. Upon successful completion, the resident will have fulfilled the necessary requirements to serve as a Director of a moderate-complexity laboratory.

Requirements

  • Applicants should have a Pharm.D. degree, or equivalent experience, with completion of an ASHP-accredited PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency Program and be eligible for licensure in Missouri.
